The Hollywood Market was one of Boise’s true landmarks in the North End. Margaret Lawrence, the owner, could be found behind the counter daily. She was always good for a colorful story and political punditry. Margaret owned this little market for decades, after having left The Idaho Statesman, where she had been one of their reporters. In addition, the true needy never went hungry if Margaret knew about them – she would personally deliver groceries to many of her customers.
The store has since closed with Margaret’s passing away in June of 2011. However, her legacy still lives on in the Yoga Studio that has opened there as her trademark Market slogan “Happiness is spoken here” is prominently emblazoned on one wall and a portrait of Margaret rests on the reception desk.
