 McCall Winter Carnival 2015

This lovely, scenic town burst at the seams with visitors enjoying the clear skies, unique ice sculptures and the opening weekend parade. There is so much to see during the Carnival, that wandering the streets is one of the most fun ways to take it all in.  Tucked in and around businesses on the main street  toward downtown, displays and sculptures are found.
Since the day was "warm", the sun was shining brightly and we knew we'd be taking a lot of pictures, we parked on the edge of town and started walking toward downtown where we planned on taking in the parade.
One of the first stops we made was at a nifty little craft show being held at the Holiday Inn Express.

First glimpse into the entry of the Craft Faire...

Lots of interesting items to browse through before we headed back out on our walk to downtown.  The main road (N. 3rd St.) to the heart of McCall thronged with people headed in the same direction and all enjoying the temperate weather.

The view from our parade review spot!  We enjoyed all the floats going by for well over an hour and collected some candy and beads lofted by the parade participants...numerous children scored some fine memories.

Once the parade was over, it became apparent just how popular this event is by the crowd dispersing to more activities!!

On our trek around town, we were able to take in a smattering of the 38 sculptures that were created for this year's competition.

This amazingly detailed beauty titled "Davy Jones Locker", took the Grand Prize.  Visitors could walk inside and check out the detail work and even peek out the cannonball hole in the side.  Definitely pirate inspired!

This towering piece, titled "Humpback in McCall",
was awarded Most Photogenic.

"50 Years of Musical Memories" at Beside the Mill.

"Two Feet of Snow" by the Yellow Couch Teen Center won the First Timers award.

This charming sculpture depicted "Olaf and Sven From Frozen".  The next three photos are of "Snowman BBQ", which is a humorous take on a Calvin and Hobbes theme.

These latest two are of "Sharlie's Mountain".

Several of the sculptures, like "Snow Bank" in front of the Washington Federal building, invite visitor interaction.

"Let There Be Cake" by Stacey Cakes.

Some of the sculptures appear to be a feat of
engineering they are so massive!

Kids especially enjoy the piles of snow everywhere.
To cap off our downtown McCall adventure,
we took in a view that only happens this time of year

From Payette Lake looking toward Legacy Park and the Hotel McCall.  Winter events in Idaho are simply spectacular.
